This program focuses on African Americans with diabetes-an estimated 10% of the black population of the U.S. It explains the causes of this high incidence as partly genetic but also partly due to other factors: obesity, poor diet, lack of exercise, and stress. The program explains the disease, the role of insulin, the proper management of the disease, and how failure to control diabetes can lead to severe complications. It lists the warning signs of diabetes but also explains that diabetes often develops without symptoms.
